Nissan Introduce New Driving Assstance Technology
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has announced its new "Moving Object Detection"
(MOD) driving assistance technology, which is designed to detect moving
objects around the vehicle and alert the driver to their presence. MOD has been
developed as an additional function for Around View Monitor,*1 Nissan's driving
and parking assistance system.
The conventional Around View Monitor system, with its user-friendly screen display,
helps the driver steer the vehicle easily into a parking space. MOD uses both the
screen display and an audio buzzer to notify the driver of moving objects in the
vicinity of the vehicle - such as pedestrians -during parking procedures, when starting
the car, or when driving at low speeds. This technology helps supplement the driver's
vision in situations such as when leaving a parking space or when entering into a
junction/intersection with poor right-and-left side visibility.
Parked Car
When a moving object is detected in the area around the car, the driver is notified by
both the screen display and a buzzer.

When a moving object is detected in the front view (the direction in which the car
is moving) or the rear view, the driver is notified by the screen display and an
audible warning.

Around View Monitor was launched for the first time in the world in October 2007 and
has been available on the Infiniti EX and FX since 2008. AVM assists the driver during
parking procedures with a screen display that shows a bird's eye view of the car
and its surroundings and gives audible warnings when the car is near an object. In
addition, a " rear wide view function" provides a 180 view from both the front and rear
ends of the vehicle at the flick of a switch - a useful function at junctions/intersections
with poor right-and-left visibility.
The addition of the new MOD function further enhances the Around View Monitor
system without need for an additional sensor. MOD helps provide the driver with
supplemental information when starting the car or driving at low speeds, thereby
contributing to greater sense of security while driving, as well as during parking
procedures. As always, it is the driver's responsibility to make sure his or her
surroundings are safe before proceeding.
Nissan is promoting the development of advanced technologies as part of its "Safety
Shield" concept, based on the idea that "vehicles help to protect people." From the
viewpoint that the driver is always the main subject of driving, Nissan places emphasis
on assisting the driver intuitively through means such as visual and audio notifications.
*1 Around View Monitor displays a bird's eye image of the vehicle and its surroundings. The images from four ultra-wide angle
high-resolution cameras mounted on the front, sides and rear of the vehicle are processed by advanced technology. The
system provides a comprehensive view to the driver in a way that makes directions easy to understand. It is especially useful
when parking or driving slowly. The Around View Monitor system was employed for the first time in the world in October 2007
on the Nissan ELGRAND, and then later on the Infiniti EX and FX. AVM and MOD are supplemental features. The driver is
responsible for making sure his or her surroundings are safe before proceeding.

Nissan - The Crossover Brand
On the crest of an all-new DUALIS design, Nissan Australia announces the arrival of
a 7-seat family wagon version, dubbed DUALIS +2.
Based on the innovative DUALIS hatch concept, the DUALIS +2 makes its showroom
debut next week.
Nissan moved the goalposts again, introducing the stylish family crossover, the
DUALIS+2, with more space and a flexible seven-seat configuration and adding even
more strongly to the appeal of the new DUALIS range.
DUALIS+2 combines the best of both three-row people movers and the family
hatchback with none of the drawbacks. So it enjoys the driving dynamics, ride comfort
and refinement of a finely tuned hatchback with the added benefit of the practical
interior of a bigger car. But what it has that MPVs and hatchbacks don't have is a
striking, attractive exterior and interior design. At the same time previous compact
SUV customers will appreciate the third row of seats.
The SUV-influenced styling, 'command' seating position and genuine driving
enjoyment are all carried over from the standard DUALIS, but the greater length is
aimed squarely at busy families seeking practicality without sacrificing style.
DUALIS+2 joins the original five-seat DUALIS and the exciting all-new Murano to
cement the company's status as the 'Crossover Brand'.

More Seats - More Space
DUALIS+2 will be available in ST and Ti variants equipped with a CVT transmission.
A little longer and higher than the 5-seater DUALIS, DUALIS+2 is priced from $29,990
(for the ST 2WD) to $36,890 (for the AWD Ti model).
Design DNA
Although sharing clear family design DNA with its sibling, DUALIS+2 is nonetheless
subtly different from virtually every angle. Created by designers at Nissan Design
Europe in London's Paddington, the new model is essentially identical to DUALIS
from the A-pillar forward... but everything else behind has been changed.
Longer and taller, DUALIS+2 has been designed to provide greater interior space and
more practicality. External changes include new front and rear doors, side glass, a
new tailgate and new-look grille.
Panoramic Roof
Like its 5 seat sibling, DUALIS+2 Ti models come with a huge fixed panoramic glass
roof that opens up the cabin to create a sense of airiness - if the sun becomes too
intense, then a sunshade will glide into place at the touch of a button.
A 135 mm extended wheelbase and a 211 mm increase in length bring added space
for larger families and the ingenious third row of seats can be used by children or for
occasional use by adults. Their reclining backrests - with seven adjustment settings
- will fold completely flat without the need to remove the head restraints first, opening
up the luggage space to give 550 litres (VDA), an increase of 140 over DUALIS.
The standard full-depth roller-blind tonneau cover can be stored beneath the boot floor
when the third row seats are being used, while the under-floor storage lid can double
up as a cargo divider if you need to keep fragile items separated from heavier objects.
Second row passengers enjoy increased kneeroom and the 40/20/40 split backrest
reclines over a range of 15 degrees. Added versatility is provided by the centre '20'
portion which can be folded forward to act as a large multi-function armrest, complete
with two cup holders, a lidded storage box large enough to hold personal music
players and a power outlet.
The whole second row seat now slides (in a 60/40 split) fore and aft to improve
ingress and egress, whilst also offering the added benefit of more second row seat
legroom or conversely more cargo area.
Mechanically, DUALIS+2 follows the lead set by the original model with strut-type
front suspension and a fully independent multi-link rear set-up.
Suspension settings have been revised to take account of the extra weight and
payload potential, while steering assistance has also been re-tuned.

Chassis and Transmission
Two versions of the chassis are available, offering the choice of front-wheel drive
(ST and Ti) or sure-footed ALL-MODE 4X4 (in Ti only). DUALIS+2 is powered by the
familiar, lightweight all-alloy MR20 2.0 litre engine.
The DUALIS+2 comes standard with the highly efficient, fuel-saving CVT auto
transmission, offering a choice between 'stepless' changes or a manual over-ride with
six fixed ratios.
The new DUALIS+2 ST is well-equipped featuring power windows with driver's
one touch operation, air conditioning, a drive computer, steering wheel mounted
Bluetooth handsfree phone, audio and cruise controls, plus a four speaker CD audio
system with MP3 connectivity.
A full safety package mirroring that of the five-star ANCAP rated five-seat DUALIS
includes VDC, six airbags plus front seat active headrests and seatbelt pretensioners.
In addition, the Ti model features an expansive panoramic glass roof, leather trim
seats and steering wheel, unique 18 inch alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, upgraded
in-dash six-disc changer with six speakers, intelligent key and dual zone auto climate
control air-conditioning.

Nissan Murano wins 2010 Australian International Design Award
The distinctive Nissan Murano has underlined its unique profile in the luxury crossover market by capturing a prestigious Australian International Design Award.
The Nissan Murano was the only SUV to win at the Design Awards which recognise excellence in design and innovation. Judges noted that the Murano as a "prestige mid-sized SUV wagon represented a radical departure from the angular wagon stereotype.
The latest Murano shifts its design emphasis from sporty to luxury and high efficiency." The Design Awards are presented by Standards Australia, in its charter with the Australian Government, to develop internationally aligned Australian standards.
From a shortlist of ten vehicles, the Murano (and two imported sedans) were recognised by the judges at a high profile function in Sydney attended by more than 800 designers and their guests.
Powered -up New Pathfinder adds Grunt
The new Nissan Pathfinder has arrived and boasts class-leading turbodiesel
torque from its enhanced 2.5-litre engine, lifting it above its immediate
competitors in the medium SUV segment.
With improved equipment levels across the three model grades, a revised interior and
freshened exterior styling, the adventure-friendly, seven-seat new Nissan Pathfinder
will be more popular than ever.
Beefier turbo-diesel torques up towing
The headline news is the update to the already well-liked YD25 turbo-diesel
powerplant. The 2.5-litre capacity is unchanged, but peak power output rises to
140kW, up 14kW or 11 per cent in the upgraded YD25 engine and maximum torque
muscles its way to 450Nm, a 12 percent improvement (up from 403Nm).
This engine will be available across the three model grade Nissan Pathfinder range,
in ST, ST-L and Ti guises, and it out-muscles most of Pathfinder's traditional rivals.
The new Nissan Pathfinder turbo-diesel engine not only boosts increased output,
making it all the more enjoyable to drive off-road, it can tow loads of up to 3,000kg
effortlessly (trailer with brakes). Furthermore, fuel consumption and emission levels
have declined, while overall refinement improves.
Fuel consumption has improved as well, with the manual transmission model achieving
a creditable 8.5-litres/100km combined (a 15 percent improvement over the former
YD25 engine), while the automatic transmission achieves 9.0-l/100km combined.
Overwhelming demand for diesel power by Pathfinder buyers sealed the fate of the
previous petrol powerplant for the Pathfinder range.

Fresh face for Pathfinder
The revised Nissan Pathfinder has a new face thanks to a revised bonnet, grille and
a new bumper assembly. Adding 80mm to Pathfinder's length, the bumper is more
rounded and lends a more sporting and modern touch to the car.
Further enhancements include a new headlight design and Ti models now feature
Xenon headlights for improved illumination at night and in poor visibility. The Xenon
headlights also boast auto levelling and headlight washers concealed in the bumper
moulding.
New Nissan Pathfinder ST-L and Ti models add electric folding door mirrors.
The new Pathfinder also adopts a new bumper design at the rear with squared off
edges to give a larger and lower mass for a more stable, tougher appearance.
New interior impresses on sight
Changes to the Nissan Pathfinder's welcoming cabin boost the impression of quality
and include a completely revised central dash cluster. There are also revised door
trims, new seat fabric, including leather seat trim for ST-L models and chrome
highlights.
Nissan Pathfinder ST-L customers will also enjoy further features previously restricted
to the Ti models; electrically adjustable and heated front seats, as well as driver seat
and door mirror memory settings.
For Nissan Pathfinder Ti customers, previous wood grain trim is replaced by a more
modern and fresh metallic trim, complete with revised dials and all-wheel-drive
switchgear controls
User-friendly technology update
Nissan Pathfinder brings many exciting technological enhancements to the range,
giving it a competitive edge in the very busy medium SUV segment.
All new Nissan Pathfinder models are equipped with a Bluetooth handsfree phone
system (with compatible phone models), controlled via the touch of a button from the
steering wheel Bluetooth controls.
All models now also include audio controls on the steering wheel (new for ST models)
and these are now illuminated for improved visibility and ease of use.
The ST model adds a 6 CD in-dash auto-changer, while all models add an auxiliary
MP3 player input jack for plug and play functionality for iPod and iPhone.
For the up-spec ST-L and Ti models, the Nissan Intelligent Key is included, allowing
keyless entry for added convenience, while the ST-L model adds the rear parking
sensors previously fitted to Ti models.
Media Information
The top-of-the-range Pathfinder Ti gains a significant technological enhancement,
in the form of the latest Nissan IT innovation: a communication and music system
featuring a hard drive-based Satellite Navigation system complete with touch screen
control, 3D navigation guide and local points of interest information. All these
functions are displayed via a large-scale 7-inch colour screen.
This extensively featured entertainment system includes a 9.3GB "Music Box" hard
drive, which allows drivers to rip their CD collection straight onto the system's hard
drive. There is an auxiliary MP3 player input jack, as well as full iPod (or USB storage
device) connectivity via a USB connection.
When an iPod is connected to the system, it may then be controlled via the colour
display and touch screen, allowing easy selection of songs, playlists and artists.
The Ti model's entertainment system capabilities mean only a single CD slot is
required; the player is able to read DVDs, and plays vision through the centrally
mounted screen (only when the handbrake is applied for safety reasons).
A further new feature is the fitment of a reversing camera to Ti models as standard.
This camera provides Predictive Path Technology to aid reversing.
The popular rear seat DVD entertainment unit continues as part of the Ti model specification.

Nissan Announces European prices of Nissan Leaf, world's first mass-market, all electric zero emission vehicle
Price to be under 30,000 Euros after incentives in most European countries
- Price in UK is 23,350 Pounds (27,471 Euros) after government incentives
- Price in the Netherlands is 32,839 Euros (28,068 Pounds). Dutch buyers will
benefit from 6,000-19,000 Euros (5,128-16,239 Pounds) in tax savings over five years
- Price in Republic of Ireland is 29,995 Euros (25,637 Pounds) after
government incentives
- Price in Portugal is 29,955 Euros (25,603 Pounds) after government incentives
- All prices include battery
- Reservations for the four initial markets to begin in July
- Prices for other countries to be announced closer to launch
ROLLE, Switzerland - Nissan International SA today announced that the all-electric
Nissan LEAF will be priced at under 30,000 Euros (25,641 Pounds) after incentives in
most of its European launch markets - about the same as a comparably-equipped diesel
or hybrid vehicle.
The company also announced specific prices for the UK, Netherlands, Republic of Ireland
and Portugal, the four initial European launch markets for the Nissan LEAF. Reservations
will begin in July.
The Nissan LEAF is a compact, zero-emission five-passenger family car that comes fully
equipped with features such as air conditioning, satellite navigation, a parking camera, a
quick charge socket and innovative smart-phone connectivity.
"Nissan leads the industry by being the first automaker to offer an affordable zeroemission
car. It's a pure electric vehicle, with no tailpipe emissions and very low running
costs. Nissan LEAF may look similar to a compact family car, but its smoothness,
acceleration and handling will surprise and impress drivers and passengers alike," said
Simon Thomas, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Nissan International SA.
18 May 2010
In the United Kingdom, the purchase price of the Nissan LEAF would be 23,350 Pounds
(27,471 Euros) after government incentives. The price, which includes the battery,
is 28,350 Pounds (33,353 Euros) before incentives. The UK government recently
announced that it will refund 25 percent of the purchase price of a pure electric vehicle,
up to a limit of 5,000 Pounds. The Nissan LEAF goes on sale in the UK in February 2011.
An array of other incentives can further defray the costs and increase the benefits of owning
the Nissan LEAF. In the UK, EV customers benefit from advantages including zero vehicle
excise duty and zero company car tax for five years. This, combined with significant savings
in fuel costs of about 600 Euros (513 Pounds) on average annually in Europe versus a
traditional car, makes the Nissan LEAF an affordable and compelling proposition.
The purchase price in the Netherlands will be 32,839 Euros (28,068 Pounds). Here,
subsidies will take the form of zero vehicle registration and road taxes, resulting in tax
savings of 6,000 Euros for private car owners and 19,000 Euros for company car owners
over five years. Sales in the Netherlands begin this December.
The price in the Republic of Ireland is 29,995 Euros (25,637 Pounds) after 5,000 Euros
in government incentives. Buyers will be exempt from vehicle registration tax, which
can amount to as much as 3,800 Euros on a C-segment car. Sales in Ireland begin in
February next year.
The price in Portugal is 29,955 Euros (25,603 Pounds) after 5,000 Euros in government
incentives. Portuguese customers owning the Nissan LEAF benefit from road tax
exemption. Sales in Portugal begin this December.
Nissan has decided to launch in these countries first due to significant government
incentives for electric cars, and the ongoing development of charging infrastructure for
their successful adoption. By the end of next year, Nissan LEAF will be available in every
major Western European country.
"The Renault-Nissan Alliance is investing over four billion Euros to lead the auto industry
in electric vehicles, with eight products across three brands," said Simon Thomas. "This
investment includes five battery plants and seven confirmed assembly plants, including
Sunderland in the UK. This reflects the strong commitment the alliance has made to
electric vehicles and our determination to lead the market."
To ensure a place in line when Nissan begins taking reservations in the four initial
markets, customers in those countries should pre-register on their local Nissan
consumer website.*
In addition to purchasing the car outright, customers will also be able to buy the car
on a Nissan finance plan. Details of the all-inclusive acquisition method will also be
released in July.
